Albox is a typical Spanish market town nestled between two mountain ranges and surrounded by stunning scenic olive groves and dramatic hills and valleys.

With narrow streets and an authentic atmosphere, its facilities include schools, shops, restaurants and a medical centre. Interspersed with small plazas, Albox has an air of wealth and prosperity, as it has been the local commercial centre since the XIXth Century.

You will find the small but ever growing town of Albox amongst the mountains of the Sierra de las Estancias and the Sierra de los Filabres, amidst stunning countryside of olive groves, orange, lemon and citrus tree plantations. It is situated at 424m above sea level and has 12,471 inhabitants. Several rivers and streams flow close to the town, including the rivers Almanzora and Albanchez that contribute to the area's rich agricultural heritage.

The popular coastal resort of Mojacar and Garucha are mere 30-minutes by car and a 90-minute drive takes you to the city of Granada and the spectacular Alhambra Palace, one of Spain's premier tourist attractions.

Also visit the ➤Cabo de Gato National Park, enjoy a desert trip and discover the fantastic original film sets where many famous Westerns were made and take in the large zoo and amusement park, all not to be missed.

If your sport or pastime is one of the following, you're in luck: Horse riding, hiking, snorkeling and scuba diving, all close-by, or visit the old city of Almería, within easy reach for fun and interesting days out.

Spanish Markets

There are many street markets in the towns of Spain and these can be found almost every day of the week. These markets cater for a wide range of goods and articles. Some offer antiques and bric-a-brac, whilst many offer the fresh fruit and vegetable produce of their particular region.

You might also find a Car Boot sale. Albox and Mojacar have them. Called 'Rastros' in Spanish, you can often purchase incredible bargains you might not find in England.

Market hours change considerably within each town. Most usually open in the morning, some during the afternoon and just the odd one or two during the evening.

Inclement weather can also sometimes cause a market to close early or even not open at all.
